My name is Beatriz Acevedo and I am an artist, writer and educator. I am have been working I have been working in education since the 1990s, trying to merge my interest in literature, art, theater and radio with my role as educator. I have lived a “double life” merging my “academic” career with “creative” practice, as an artist and as a writer. This is all about my life purpose of Bonito Living, or Living beautifully, finding meaning, joy and sense in everyday life, while becoming responsible citizens and planet guests.
This blog has been my main space and location for writing, alongside journal articles and book chapters. In the last two years I have been writing on my first book on Bonito Living, or Living Beautifully, which is to live a healthy, harmonious, caring and creative life, where we find our own joy and surround ourselves with beautiful feelings, friendships, relationships and symbols. It is not about “pretty”, it is about “spiritual” and “joy”, and it aims at healing our relationship with beauty.
As an educator I am a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK), and a National Teaching Fellow (Advance HE), and work as associate professor in Creative Education.
As an artist, I have exhibited nationally and internationally, merging also the fields of sustainabilty with art, in the purpose of living beautifully. In 2015, I co-founded of RawTag, with Carmen Lamberti and Romas Malevicius, an art and education for sustainability project questioning our personal responsibility in the consumption of fashion, engaging with 1500 participants across the UK and Europe. My art works as a catalyst for critical reflection: My installation “Yonis: Art and Feminism” addresses issues on gender politics by interrogating the bio-politics exerted on the female body, while reclaiming her power and agency.
